All NACOL accumulators have a safety vent. This eliminates the possibility of accidentally removing the top cover while the accumulator is fully charged. As the top cover is un-threaded, it opens the vent hole and the nitrogen is discharged before the cover becomes a projectile.     Cross section (above) illustrates nitrogen venting through safety vent as top cover opens.
